Oliver had only been in the hospital for a day (and not a full one at that) and he was more than ready to get out. Despite the fact that he'd lost enough blood a transfusion had to be performed, and the fact that he was in a great deal of pain (which he wasn't about to readily admit), he just wanted to go home.

But to no avail. Dr. Hamilton informed him he'd be there at least a couple more days before he'd have his freedom back.

"I hate hospitals," he grumbled, flipping through the TV channels once more.

Faith smiled in approval. "He's hot, got the whole super hero thing goin' for him. Could do a hell of a lot worse. Least you weren't thinkin' about Batman. You just know that dude has issues."

He chuckled at her words, ducking his head a little. "Well, he does dress as a giant bat."

She laughed. "Seriously, yo. What the hell is with that? Bet he's wicked ugly under the mask."

"No idea. But be honest--aren't you the least bit curious who he really is?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. He was certainly curious, and he'd met the guy.

"Hell yeah. Never really got the mask thing but whatever." She shrugged. "To each his own."

And then she paused, considering. "Or her. Maybe that's the big secret."

"Well, maybe it's to protect their loved ones," he said with a shrug. "I don't think either of them have any actual super powers."

He paused at that, too. "You have a point."

It was something she hadn't considered, though really, she should have. How often had Dawn, or Xander and Willow been used against Buffy? Hell, Kakistos had used Diana against her when she was practically just starting in the slaying game.

"Touche. Guess since I never had to worry about it, didn't really take it into consideration."

He studied her for a moment. "How long have you been doing this?" he asked curiously.

She cocked her head to the side. "Would you believe me if I said ten years?"

"Yeah, I would." He nodded slightly and offered her a small smile. He had no reason not to believe her.

"Minus the whole nine month vacay...and, ya know, prison." Faith winced. "Does it count if I call it sick time?"

"Works for me." He smiled. Though he was curious on both accounts, he wasn't into pushing. Besides, whatever had happened was the past and clearly she was a different person now.

"Now see? This is why I like you. So damn agreeable." She ran a hand through her hair and that smirk was back in place. "They at least feedin' you right or do I need to sneak in some real food?"

He chuckled. "Chloe snuck me in donuts this morning. My friend Bart brought tacos for lunch. But if I have to eat Jello while I'm here, I'm tying my bedsheets together and diving out that window."

"Never did trust jello. I've fought things way too similar to ever stomach eatin' it. Still don't think it's worth the window though. You're pretty high up." She gave him as stern a look as she could through the joke... which was to say not very.

He grinned. "Good thing I'm not scared of heights. I'd be in trouble."

There was a slight frown. "How bad was the damage?"

She hadn't actually gotten around to asking about that.

"Let's just say the thing had very large claws," he said, offering her a small smile.

"Don't know whether I should be impressed or call you an idiot." She picked at the skin around her fingernail uncomfortably. "Seriously though, glad you're still among the breathing."

"Well, neither actually. It got into my apartment. I wasn't going after it," he told her with a wry smile. "And I'm also glad to still be breathing."

There was a sigh and a shake of her head. "Guess that makes it better in a "you're not an idiot" kinda way."

He grinned a bit. "I'd rather leave the monster hunting to the pro's like yourself."

"That whole accelerated healing thing really doesn't hurt."

"I bet not," he agreed, leaning back against his pillows and closing his eyes for a moment.

Faith stood when Oliver's eyes closed. "Think I'm gonna get goin', let you rest so you can come party it up when they parole you."
