Reaching Out. With chloeas.

Oliver glanced at Chloe sideways as he sat behind the wheel of his little orange sports car as he drove them to the airport. The jet was leaving in a half-hour for Snowmass, Colorado. He was anxious to get out of Kansas, and not just because he was feeling restless, but because he truly thought it would do Chloe some good to get out of there for awhile, as well.

"Wanna listen to Christmas music?" he asked, reaching toward the radio.

Chloe took one of the seats then turned to look at him when he sat next to her, "pretty sure we have established that."

"We have," he agreed, smiling at her. "But it's nice to be reminded on occasion."

"Of course I worry about you," she told him, serious this time.

Oliver paused and met her eyes, studying her for a moment. "Works both ways," he said just as seriously.

Pursing her lips together, she nodded slightly, holding her breath as she looked at him, "I know."

He held her gaze for a long moment, suddenly having a very vivid memory of kissing her beneath the mistletoe at the Daily Planet party. "That's what friends do," he murmured.

She smiled softly at the word 'friends' and nodded, finally breaking the eye contact, "it is."

He nodded slightly, also looking away. Friends, he thought. Just friends.

Anything else would be too soon and too confusing--for both of them. It would be a complication that they couldn't risk.

At least that's what he told himself.

Chloe glanced at him after a second and took a deep breath, "thank you for planning this, Oliver, it's nice to have the chance to get away from everything." She said sincerely, even if she was still apprehensive about it, she knew that's why he had come up with this trip and she knew he was trying to make the holidays easier on her, probably on both of them.

He glanced at her and offered her a gentle smile. "You're welcome," he said softly, draping an arm around her shoulders and giving her a gentle, affectionate squeeze.

She smiled softly at him and shifted slightly closer to him, she had never expected to become so close with Oliver, but since he came back, they had grown closer and the fact that they saw eye to eye on most things no one else seemed to agree with them helped a lot, not to mention, seeing them in that weird version of the future had made them feel even more like they needed to stick together and she was grateful that he was there with her.
