The jet ride from Kansas to Hawaii had been long, and most of them had dozed off and on during it. It had been a long time since he'd been to Hawaii, and he had been looking forward to it now more than he had even the first time he'd gone. And now, as he lay back on one of the sandy white beaches of Kauai, sunglasses on and a pina colada in one hand, he smiled, listening to the quiet sounds of the ocean lapping at the beach.

Oliver waded into the water, reaching out and draping an arm around her surfboard. "Getting good at the surfing," he commented with a smile.

"Guess I'm a California girl on the inside," she grinned back. Then she nudged him with a shoulder. "Want to show some of your moves?"

He smiled at her. "Sure. But to be honest, at this point, you're better at it than I am."

Her grin widened and she lifted her chin proudly. "Well that's a given."

Oliver chuckled softly. "Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm an old guy," he teased.

"Careful or you'll break a hip." She bumped him with hers.

He shook his head in amusement. "Yeah and then you'll have to find me a walker or a cane."

"Motorized wheelchair?" she suggested brightly. "I could paint racing stripes on it."

"Let me guess. Red and yellow?" he teased.

"Well you can't have green racing stripes. They totally give off the wrong vibe," she teased back.

"Pfft." He grinned and then splashed her playfully.

She laughed and splashed him back with a muffled, "Hey!"

He laughed, too, holding up the surfboard in front of him for protection. "Oh, like you weren't already thinking about it," he teased.

"I was, but that doesn't mean you were supposed to beat me to it!" She ducked under the water to grab at his ankles and try to duck him under.

He laughed and held his breath, letting her pull him under the water and as they came up, he had an arm around her waist. He grinned playfully. "Hold your breath," he advised.

Like what happened with Michael when he grabbed her around the waist, threads of panic made her freeze up, but she did manage to stop herself from plowing her elbow back into Oliver's chest. She grabbed onto his wrist hard, instead.

"Easy," he whispered, still holding onto her. "It's okay, Speedy. Just me, remember?"

"Sorry," she muttered, embarrassed at being such a baby about a stupid, playful gesture. Twice now. "I don't know what's wrong with me."

"It's all right," he assured her softly. "You've been through a lot." He kissed her forehead and let her go. Wanting to take her mind off it, he grinned. "So how do you feel about whales?"

She pushed out a breath through her nose and shook off the lingering unease. "They're big and have lots of blubber?" she replied, raising her eyebrows. "Why, are you planning on buying one?"

He chuckled. "Hardly. Talk about pissing off AC." He smirked. "No, this island is one of the best places to whale watch in Hawaii."

"Is that what the plans for tonight are?" she questioned with a smile. "I've never even seen a whale except for on television."

"Yeah, if you're interested." He smiled back at her. "Was thinking about renting a boat for the evening."

"Sure." She looking at him skeptically. "Do you know how to sail a boat?"

"No, but I'm pretty sure AC does." He grinned. "Although given my history with boats, maybe I should stick to land."
