Fun in the Sun. [Open to anyone who's in Hawaii!]

The jet ride from Kansas to Hawaii had been long, and most of them had dozed off and on during it. It had been a long time since he'd been to Hawaii, and he had been looking forward to it now more than he had even the first time he'd gone. And now, as he lay back on one of the sandy white beaches of Kauai, sunglasses on and a pina colada in one hand, he smiled, listening to the quiet sounds of the ocean lapping at the beach.

"I'll just plan on sleeping with one eye open," he flicked more water at her. "You're on. How far?"

Mia considered the expanse of sea. "Say, from here to that buoy?" she said, pointing to one that was a fair distance away, but not far enough out to take them out of sight from Ollie and Chloe on the shore.

Michael followed her finger then nodded. "Okay. First one there and back." And he dove in.

Mia watched him dive with wide eyes, then shouted "Cheater!" before merrily diving after him with quick strokes.

He heard her shout and managed a sort of grin as he continued swimming as fast as he could to the buoy.

Despite his head start, she caught up quickly. They didn't call her 'Speedy' for nothing.

Damn. He caught her out of the corner of his eye as he rounded the buoy. She was good.

She'd had a lot of practice in handling waves while in Star City, so the swell and crest of them worked in her favor instead of against her. At the same time, Michael was taller and had a stronger kick, so by the time they were half-way back, they were neck and neck.

Michael kicked harder, trying to gain a lead but he saw her inching ahead. With only a few feet to go, he gave a final strong kick hoping that would be enough to pass Mia.

Mia reached out with her hand, but she ended up about an arm's length behind Michael at the finish line. She came out of the water breathing hard but smiling. "Now I've got to get a pool to practice in. Because you are never beating me again."

Michael flipped over in the water, resting on his elbows and breathing hard as well. He looked up at her with a grin. "That would mean I'd have to get in the pool and make sure I always beat you, you know."
